- When anesthetic is used varies areas of the mouth is numb, so to prevent damage to your tongue and lips, you should avoid any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off.
- The injection site of the area may also be sore. So it is recommend that pain relief such as Motrin or Aleve every 4-6 hrs as need for pain before the numbness wore off.
- For the first few weeks, it is normal to experience some pressure or sensitivity to hot and cold after your composite filling is placed.
- Your gums may be sore for several days. Rinse your mouth three times a day with warm salt water (put a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water, rinse and spit) to reduce pain and swelling.
- One of the most common problems following filling placement with anesthesia, is an incorrect bite so it is wise to chew on the opposite side.
